Best Spain Beaches publishes research about the Spanish coast. It is a guide, not an authority. This page explains the limits of what we publish and what you should check for yourself before you go anywhere described on this Site.

1. General Information Only

Everything on this Site is written for general information. It is not professional advice of any kind — not safety advice, not legal advice, not medical, financial or insurance advice — and it does not replace the instructions of the authority responsible for a given beach.

Where our guides and the on-site signage disagree, the signage wins. Where our guides and a town hall or natural park authority disagree, the authority wins.

2. This Is Not Safety Advice

This is the part of this page that matters most, so it is worth being blunt about it.

Many of the beaches and coves we cover have no lifeguard, no drinking water, no shade and no mobile coverage you can rely on. Sea conditions change within minutes. Currents, shorebreak, undertow and water depth vary with the weather, the season and the movement of sand, and a cove that is calm in the morning may not be in the afternoon.

• Lifeguard seasons are set municipally and are shorter than the period during which people actually swim. The absence of a red flag is not a statement that conditions are safe — on an unsupervised beach there is nobody to raise one.
• Descriptions of walks, paths, staircases and access tracks are descriptions, not route guidance. Surfaces degrade, sections close after storms, and published distances and difficulty grades frequently disagree between sources.
• Nothing we write about jumping from rocks, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, surfing or any other activity should be read as a recommendation that you do it, or as an assurance that conditions make it safe.
• If you are unsure whether conditions suit your swimming ability, the safe answer is to stay out of the water.

3. This Is Not Legal Advice

Some of our articles describe Spanish coastal law, municipal ordinances and access regulations, including the Ley 22/1988 de Costas. Coastal law is amended frequently and interpreted by the courts continuously; provisions have been annulled, restored and modified more than once, and the position may have moved since an article was published.

Anything involving a concession, a deslinde, a property purchase near the shore, a dispute over access, or a fine you have received requires a qualified Spanish lawyer working from the current consolidated text. Nothing on this Site should be relied on for those purposes.

4. Information Goes Out of Date

Access dates, barrier hours, parking capacity and charges, shuttle timetables, dog rules, capacity limits, seasonal closures and fees are set by individual administrations and are reissued season by season. A rule that exists this summer may not exist next summer, and neighbouring municipalities on the same stretch of coast often apply different ones.

We date our articles and cite the administration a figure comes from precisely so that you can go and check it. Before travelling, confirm the current position with the relevant ayuntamiento, natural park authority or regional tourism body. The official sources are linked inside each individual guide.

5. You Assume the Risk of Your Own Decisions

Any decision you take on the basis of our content — where to drive, where to park, which path to walk, whether to swim, and when — is yours and is taken at your own risk. To the fullest extent permitted by law we accept no liability for loss, injury, damage, expense or inconvenience arising from reliance on anything published here. This does not exclude any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.

6. Editorial Independence

We have no commercial relationship with any business, hotel, restaurant, campsite, boat operator or activity provider named in our guides. We do not publish sponsored content, paid placements, paid rankings or affiliate links, and nobody has paid to appear on this Site or to be positioned anywhere in a ranking.

Our rankings are editorial opinion. They are ordered by judgement, not by measurement, and reasonable people will disagree with them. Where a business is mentioned it is because it is relevant to visiting the beach, not because of any arrangement with us.

If this ever changes, it will be disclosed clearly and prominently at the beginning of the relevant post.

7. Advertising

This Site may display advertising served by third-party networks, including Google AdSense. Advertisements are selected by the network, not by us, and their appearance is not an endorsement of the advertiser or of any claim made in an advertisement. Advertising has no influence on which beaches we cover or how we rank them. 8. External Links

We link to external websites so that our sources can be checked. We do not control them, we are not responsible for their content, accuracy or availability, and a link is not an endorsement.

9. Photographs

Photographs on this Site are published under Creative Commons licences or as public domain material via Wikimedia Commons, and are credited to their photographers. A photograph shows a place at one moment, often years ago. Sand levels, vegetation, buildings, access paths and facilities change, and an image should not be treated as a representation of current conditions.

10. Corrections
